Pet Euthanasia and Continuing Education (P.E.A.C.E.) Program
Welcome to our P.E.A.C.E. Program, where compassionate care meets invaluable learning opportunities. Our program offers a unique way for pet owners to honor their beloved companions while contributing to the advancement of veterinary medicine.
About Our Program:
At Wallan Veterinary Hospital, we understand that saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most difficult decisions a pet owner can make. Our P.E.A.C.E. Program provides a dignified and compassionate end-of-life experience for pets, while also serving as a platform for our veterinary professionals to enhance their surgical skills through hands-on training.
How It Works:
- Consultation and Consent: Pet owners meet with our veterinary team to discuss their pet’s condition and options for euthanasia. If the owner chooses to participate in the program, they provide consent for their pet’s body to be used for educational purposes.
- Euthanasia Procedure: Our experienced veterinarians perform euthanasia in a peaceful and respectful manner, ensuring the comfort and well-being of both the pet and the owner throughout the process.
- Continuing Education: Following euthanasia, the pet’s body is respectfully handled and used for advanced surgical training by our veterinary professionals. These procedures allow veterinarians to refine their skills in various surgical techniques, ultimately improving the quality of care they provide to future patients. There is no experimentation, and all training is done under the guidance of lead veterinary surgeon Dr. Paul May.
- Forever Remembered: All participating pets will have their name added to our memorial board as a constant reminder and thank you for their generous gift to our veterinary staff.
- No Cost: As a further thank you, there is no charge for the euthanasia procedure. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer private cremation options for participating patients, so if you would like your pet’s ashes returned, we are unable to take them into the P.E.A.C.E. Program.
Benefits of Participation:
- Honoring Your Pet: Participating in our program allows pet owners to honor their furry companions by contributing to the education and training of our veterinarians.
- Advancing Veterinary Medicine: By donating their pet’s body, owners enable veterinarians to gain valuable experience in advanced surgical procedures, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for pets in need of medical care.
